I had a dream

About 20 years ago I had a dream to become an employer for the greatest company I knew. The company of my choice. My intention was so strong. I was willing to work hard to get it. It didn’t mean that I was applying for new vacancies every day, or was constantly checking with the recruiters. I worked on another level, without even knowing exactly what I was doing.

The frequency of light

I had this travel journal, I got it from a friend, for a birthday I believe. The first pages of the book I actually used to write about this trip I took back then. I imagined upfront that I would write every day about the idyllic quiet and surroundings of the ocean while sailing. But instead, I was preoccupied with myself while trying to battle seasickness. Before embarking on our trip, I had read my first self-development book. So I intended to use this trip to contemplate on the new insights I gained. And on the impact they could make on my life. And I wanted to use my journal to catch my thoughts. I was prepared for aha moments and big breakthroughs. But in reality I lay in bed most of the time because I felt miserable.

A different kind of journal

Back home I first tried to recall what I experienced to complete my story. But soon I decided to use my journal otherwise. I wrote on page 3: “This will be a different kind of journal. This will be a journal of coincidences. From today on I will try to write down as many coincidences as possible. Both the big amazing things and the little funny ones”. The first couple of pages after that, I recorded my dreams, funny stuff! After a month or so, I really got into things and I started writing every day about what I wanted. My dream job.

Sometimes the coincidences pointed in the direction I wanted to go and reminded me that I was on the right track and that things would happen as I imagined. Other days, I reported on being disappointed and sad, because it seamed that I would never reach my goal, but I was persistent and determined that I was going to make it. And then the day came that I agreed on a job. I succeeded! I was over the moon!! Celebrated with friends and family. Only to learn the day before I was going to sign my contract that there was a hire stop in the entire company. I was back at where I started, nowhere. And still I didn’t give up! I wrote in the diary that this probably wasn’t the right job for me, but somewhere in this company, the perfect job was waiting!

I knew what I wanted

Some time ago I found that journal and it surprised me how I carried on even when I felt stuck. I didn’t adjust my goal, I didn’t give up, I knew what I wanted and I went after it.

The way I did it seems naïve to me now although it had all the elements every good motivator will tell you to use. It had the affirmations, the journaling of thoughts, the focus on what I wanted, but not in a structured or rigid way. It is a description of thoughts and events and it reads like a novel, a story about what happened in my head and in my life so many years ago. It’s a reflection of how my self-confidence was build, and sometimes scattered, it’s about frustration and happiness, it’s a part of my life that I am really proud of and I get motivated and happy and full of expectations when I read it now. To me it’s the proof that when you’re why is important enough, you do the work to get what you want!

When you journal, be open for coincidences

It’s also an invitation for you! Set your goals and start journaling on what happens, be open and alert for every coincidence, every clue, every confirmation that you are moving. Sometimes you will move towards your goals and other days you will have the feeling that you are moving in the opposite direction, it doesn’t matter, I know you will get there in the end, it’s about the journey itself and the recording of that journey and your feelings and thoughts. It’s a document for future reference, a proof that you can create and a realization that coincidences are wonderful little signposts on the way to your destination!

For me, In the end, after applying to various job offers from the company directly, I got in via a contractors company. A job to input some data in the computer. I didn’t care what I needed to do, I got me the result I wanted! In the end I worked for the company of my desire for 13 years and I was right about it. I worked my way up, it was the greatest company I have worked for. It was the start of my career success, self-development and self-consciousness. I met some great people that to this day are dear friends.

Persistence is key

But I learned something by revisiting this diary. I learned that you need clear goals to work towards. I learned that persistence is key and that you have to stay focused on your goal, even if you think that there is no way you can reach it and that everything is pointing in the opposite direction. And if you record every step you have a lasting document to prove that you can journal your dream job, or anything else into reality! If you like to comment on this blog, get some support toward your goals, stay connected, … comment below.
