Learn to Listen to your body

Back in December of 2019, I followed career counseling, the therapist (a gifted woman herself) used a technique to teach me to feel and listen to my body again. During our session while talking or explaining certain things, I would let out a deep sigh, stop talking, touch my stomach or point to my head in a striking way.
At which point she would pauze me and ask why I did that. Drawing my attention to what I was feeling or what my body was trying to tell me.
She made sure I gave complete attention to these emotions and it felt really good. I gained a lot of interesting insights. And I learned many things that I would have overlooked if she hadn’t used that technique.

The Book that teaches you to listen to your body

For someone who has been living in her head for the longest time, this was a new experience. I was intrigued and wanted to know more about it. So, when I asked, she showed me the book: ‘It’s not always depression’ by Hilary Jacobs Hendel.

Focus on what is right.

6 months later I finally bought the book and started reading today. The preface is written by Diana Fosha who developed AEDP. Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy is a therapy aiming at healing instead of getting insights.
AEDP doesn’t focus on what’s wrong: it focuses on what’s right. Well, I like the sound of that.

The Change Triangle

When I got to the book itself, my enthusiasm got even bigger. Hilary has an easy to read writing style and the concept of the Change Triangle sounds like a technique that can be beneficial to many people. While reading – I jumped over to her website and started randomly checking things and watching videos. (You know, that is what I do: why read chronologically if I can find the core of the information much faster 🙂 )

I’m sharing here a picture and one of the video’s explaining how the Change Triangle technique works.

If you are intrigued as well: Go find the book and visit her website.
Feel free to share your thoughts or additional information about AEDP or the Change Triangle in the comments.

… back to reading now.
