Fresh Start by decluttering

Decluttering your home. Either being a work at home employee or a business owner working from home, there is great benefit to keeping your environment clean and well organized.
Let’s dive into some benefits and then look into a system that might just be what you have been looking for.

Decluttering and Organizing Your Life.

Watch this video or listen to the Podcast episode we made on this subject.

The Blogpost is not just a transcript and contains additional information to help you gain a better understanding.

Mirror mirror

I have to admit: sometimes, when working at home, I walk right by a sink filled with dirty dishes, or a pile of clutter.

Not because I don’t care, but because I am so focused and committed to our business that I just don’t always notice the state of the house around me.

I can be so engaged and focused on all the things for QuantoCat: Whether diving into the research on a fascinating subject, focusing on creating content, a landing page or social media captions.

However, when the project ends, I kind of wake up and notice that I need to declutter and organize again.  That’s why I have been on the lookout for a good system to help me keep my house organized.

After all, I do acknowledge the link between a cluttered home and a cluttered mind. A disorganized home witholds you from focusing and concentrating.

However, I am sure that it also works the other way around. For example, when my mind is full of interesting stuff that I need to think about and organize and work with, my focus is with my projects and slowly my house gets cluttered.

I guess you could say that one mirrors the other.

3 Main Benefits of decluttering

Decluttering is good for our overall wellbeing

Being in an organized home where everything has its place reduces my stress levels. It makes me feel calmer, sometimes even Zen-like.

  1. Decluttering your environment relieves stress, declutters the mind and even transforms your mindset
  2. once you have decluttered, you will think twice before bringing in additional clutter.
  3. Cleaning becomes much easier, you loose less time looking for things and you can spend all that extra free time on other activities

The 4-Step Decluttering System, one month at a time.

The best way to keep your house clutter-free is by adopting a long term strategy. The simpler the strategy, the higher the chance you will adopt it.

  • Step 1: Monthly focus area:
Divide your home and garden into 3, 6 or 12 area’s.
  • Step 2: Weekly Projects
In consecutive weeks: Purge, Rearrange, Deep Clean, Re-Decorate and Enjoy!
  • Step 3: Activity of the Day
Assign your weekly maintenance tasks for the rest of the house to the days of the week.
  • Step 4: Daily Habits
Create your morning and evening routines for your body, mind, soul and environment

Each month you will tackle another room or area.  Starting with a week of purging, followed by rearranging and deep cleaning of the room in the consecutive weeks.  In Months with just 4 weeks, you finish by redecorating your freshly decluttered room. Your assignment for the last week in Months with 5 weeks, is just enjoying the result of your hard work.

This strategy will set you on a path of a continuous improvement of your home.   The activity of the day and the Daily habits will help you keep your home, mind, body and soul in the best condition possible.
