These days you can hardly imagine a workplace without digital tools. We all know email and office software. And who can remember a life without web browsers? But what about other applications? Are you really familiar with all the software you use in your job? Or do you limit your knowledge and use to the software you have to work with regularly for your job?
With the shift to Teleworking back in march of 2020, a lot of people discovered they were not familiar enough with many of the Digital tools they suddenly had to use. Maybe you even discovered a certain unease. Maybe even fear, when confronted with the expectation that you knew how to help yourself. That is OK and I’m here to help you deal with that.
Way back, when we still used floppy discs I learned an important lesson: Menu items that contained three dots … had the option to cancel what you were about to do. That knowledge helped me tremendously in those days.
I don’t think those dots are still in use, but in all those years and with all the software I have used, it is very rare that you can’t undo the action you were doing. When I am confronted with a new software package, the first thing I do is try out every menu item and button to discover what it does. Discovering new tools is big fun for me and I think this is the reason why. You might want to try it out next time and take yourself on an adventure in software land 🙂
The number one benefit of information technology is that it empowers people to do what they want to do. It lets people be creative,... productive,... learn things they didn't think they could learn before, and so in a sense it is all about potential.
In conclusion: Learn to see Technology as an opportunity. One that will open up new worlds and possibilities. There are a lot of tools out there, many have a free version that will allow you to organize yourself more efficiently. To help you get familiar with some of them, Leen and I have joined forces and created the Digital Tools Report. Starting from the Conscious Framework we investigated some easy to use apps.
